Humpback Whales spotted off Heron Island Making their first appearance this season, Humpback Whales have been spotted recently passing within just a few hundred metres off Voyages Heron Island, as they make their journey further north to warmer waters. A pod of approximately 12 migrating whales have been sighted in the Wistari Channel treating guests and staff to a spectacular show from the beach and the island jetty. Voyages Wilson Island was named the Best Eco-Tourism Experience, and described by the judges as a "delicious dot on the Great Barrier Reef" and a "pin-up for sustainable yet unforgettable holidays". McLeod’s Daughters star inspired by Uluru McLeod's Daughters actress Zoe Naylor ventured to the Red Centre for the first time recently to shoot the cover of Australian Traveller Magazine's Outback - June Issue. Staying in the luxury white-domed tents of Voyages Longitude 131° Naylor was touched by the experience. "I was blown away by the place. Its shapes, colours, and life were breathtaking. I had that typical Aussie feeling of 'at last I get it'," said Naylor of her first venture into the Red Centre. Black Marlin Fishing Season – Lizard Island Anglers from all over the world are set to arrive on Lizard Island later this year for the 23rd Shell Cove, Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic. The Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic is recognised as the foremost tournament of its kind in the world. Anglers will fish the famous Ribbon Reefs of the Great Barrier Reef near Lizard Island, hoping to tag one of the giant black marlin who gather at this time of year.
