$3.5 MILLION CRADLE OF COMFORT

Voyages Cradle Mountain Lodge is undergoing a $3.5 million upgrade and new interior design from acclaimed firm Pike Withers to maintain its standing as one of Australia's best alpine retreats.
According to Voyages Executive General Manager Sales & Marketing Nick Baker, the upgrade is on schedule to finish by October 2005 and will feature a complete lift for the property, including new room fittings, bituminised roads, improved pathways and lighting throughout the property, and soft refurbishment of the Highland restaurant.
Renowned Australian designers Pike Withers, who most recently worked on the acclaimed Wrotham Park Lodge in Far North Queensland, have created an elegant alpine décor for the property.
"The comfort of our guests was at the forefront of our discussions with Pike Withers," said Nick.
"Pike Withers have produced a contemporary, revitalised look and feel for Cradle Mountain Lodge and one which truly reflects the spectacular World Heritage listed wilderness of Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park."
According to Amanda Pike, the landscape around the Lodge varies considerably, so they were able to identify natural settings as inspiration for their interior design.
"The pockets of lush, bright green, mossy emerald forests, with rich dark brown soil, were the inspiration for the Spa Suites," said Amanda. "Alpine slivers and olive greens were matched with the Pencil Pine Cabins; rusty reds and tans found in the lichens amidst rocky outcrops found their way into the Spa Cabin design; and the contrast of driftwood against the blue summer sky was perfect for the magnificent King Billy Suites."
The refurbishment will also see a reduction in Pencil Pine Cabins from 52 to 38, the introduction of a new Spa Family Suite, an extra King Billy Suite, and an increase of Spa Cabins from 16 to 24.
