LIZARD STANDS ALONE IN WORLD RANKING
Tuesday, 11 July 2006
Voyages Lizard Island was the only Australian property to be ranked amongst the best 100 hotels in the world, as voted by readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine in the US.
The T+L Top 100 is composed of the 100 hotels worldwide that receive the highest overall ratings - those that have a demonstrated track record of excellence - from Travel + Leisure readers in the annual World's Best poll.
Travel + Leisure readers - among the most sophisticated, passionate and discerning travellers in the world - rate properties on five characteristics: rooms/facilities, location, service, restaurants/food, and value. Overall scores are an indexed average of evaluations concerning these characteristics with Lizard Island receiving an overall score of 88.68 and rank of 58 in the world.
Lizard Island's ranking in the top 100 hotels in the world follows its recent, and equally acclaimed, award for number one hotel in Australia for service, again voted by Travel + Leisure Magazine.
According to Executive General Manager Sales & Marketing Nick Baker, one of the things that make this prestigious accolade so special is that it came from the magazine's readers, people that had actually stayed at the resort.
"Lizard Island really epitomises the best Australia has to offer - the incredible beaches, the beauty of an amazing blue green ocean, the wonder of the Great Barrier Reef. Add to that a world class resort with a barefoot luxury feel and you have this very special and truly unique place," Nick said.
This international acclaim follows the recent accolade of Lizard Island being voted by T+L as the number one hotel in Australia for service. The annual World's Best Service awards were published in the magazine's June issue and are the result of a survey of over 900,000 subscribers.
