ACCOLADE FOR SUSTAINED ENVIRONMENTAL ACHIEVEMENT
Wednesday, 3 October 2007
Luxury Travel Magazine has awarded Voyages Hotels and Resorts the top accolade for Sustained Environmental Achievement (over five years), in its inaugural Luxe Enviro Awards.
Voyages won the award from a large and diverse range of entrants from an international and domestic field, beating Hayman Island, Stamford Hotels and The Westin Hotel, Sydney.
Chris Tallent, Voyages chief executive officer, said that the award was a wonderful achievement for Voyages and its collection of remote wilderness tourism operations.
"The Voyages philosophy demands that we employ policies and practices that protect and nurture our local communities and environments and we're delighted that our resorts and hotels have received recognition for their achievements".
In order to achieve the award, Voyages demonstrated a sustained commitment to nurturing Australia's eco-destinations with complex environmental management policies, ongoing advanced eco-accreditation with Ecotourism Australia and comprehensive staff and guest awareness about local environments.
Judges for the award included The Hon Fran Bailey, Minister for Small Business and Tourism, candidate and co-founder of the Climate Change coalition Patrice Newell and the team at Luxury Travel Magazine.
Luxury Travel Magazine editor in chief, Hilary Doling said the award was attempting to "highlight and reward both local and international operators on their eco- friendly efforts".
