Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia’s Mossman Gorge Centre has won the Bronze Qantas Award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism in the 2018 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, which took place on 1 March 2019 in Launceston.

This is the third time the Indigenous eco-tourism development has scooped the Bronze Award, and follows its Gold Qantas Award for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism in the Queensland Tourism Awards in November 2018.

Sponsored by Qantas, the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism Award highlights tourism operations that demonstrate authenticity and integrity in fostering a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and traditions.

“Excellence in Indigenous Tourism is core to our vision at Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia,” said Voyages Chief Executive Officer, Grant Hunt.

“We are dedicated to providing visitors with authentic Indigenous experiences and creating opportunities for Indigenous Australians through cultural tourism. This national accolade is a great testament to the Mossman Gorge Centre team’s passion for delivering the exceptional.”

Mossman Gorge Centre is an Indigenous eco-tourism development serving the Mossman Gorge World Heritage site in Far North Queensland. The Qantas Australian Tourism Award was awarded for Mossman Gorge Centre’s impressive product which offers visitors a genuine insight into Indigenous Australia and authentic engagement with the local Kuku Yalanji people through Dreamtime Gorge Walks incorporating culture, history and storytelling on private Kuku Yalanji country in the heart of the rainforest. Mossman Gorge Centre also delivers significant economic, employment and training opportunities for the local Kuku Yalanji people.

Other winners in the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism category were Go Cultural Aboriginal Tours and Experiences (WA) who scooped the Gold Award and Nitmiluk Tours and Cicada Lodge (NT) who received the Silver Award.

The Australian Tourism Awards were established by the Federal Government in 1985 and are the tourism industry’s peak awards, celebrating and promoting excellence in tourism.
